Pauline's Snowball Dainties

My ex boyfriend from years ago had a lovely mother who I always thought about. We lost touch over 20 years ago and I had often thought of her and wondered where both her and her husband had moved. I hadn't spoken to my ex in years but through the wonder of the internet found him just a few months ago. I debated whether to get in touch but I thought that I would love to find out how she was. He was surprised to hear from me but after a catch up email sent me her address. She was still alive but not too well and her husband had passed away a few months prior. She was deaf and there was no other way to get in touch besides a letter or fax so I sent a card telling her how I had thought of her over the years and how I had missed our chats and drinking tea together. I also told her that I wished that she had been my mother in law.

I didn't think I would get a reply as I knew she wasn't too well but was very pleased when I got a nice little card from her. The handwriting was a bit shaky but I was so happy to hear from her. She said at the end that it would have been nice to have me for a daughter in law.

Sadly, I got an email from my ex about a week later saying that she had passed away. I was sad but very glad that at least I was able to reconnect with her and tell her how much she had meant to me. It gave me goosebumps to think that I had almost missed that.

Pauline, I will miss you and I wish we could have another cup of tea together.

I found this recipe in my box written in her hand for these Christmas chocolate balls. Kind of an old fashioned recipe but nice.

Enjoy

2 squares chocolate
2 tbsp butter
1 egg
1 cup icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla
14 graham wafers, crushed

Melt chocolate and butter in double boiler. Remove from stove and add egg. Mix well. Stir in icing sugar, vanilla and crumbs. Roll in small balls and then in coconut.
1 cup icing sugar
